Côtes de Bourg

On the right bank of the Dordogne, about 30 minutes away from Bordeaux, lies the up-and-coming Côtes de Bourg region. In the past, regions like these on the outskirts of Bordeaux were mostly purveyors of cheap, mass-produced wines, especially since Côtes de Bourg, with about 3,700 hectares of vines, can also produce large quantities. When the wines from the famous regions of the Bordelais were still affordable, Bordeaux fans all over the world also showed little interest in these wines. This has changed quite a bit in recent years. On the one hand, quality in this region has increased significantly, and on the other hand, the prices for premium Bordeaux have skyrocketed to such an extent that Bordeaux lovers like to look for inexpensive alternatives here. Far from the sea, it is warmer and drier here than further west. The soils are mostly limestone or calcareous rock, but also alluvial, sandy loam or sandy gravel. Most vineyards have an ideal southern exposure. In addition to red wine, white wine is also produced in the Côtes de Bourg, although in very small quantities.
