The winery Daniel Jaunegg is located in a beautiful location at about 550 metres above sea level, where the visitor has a magnificent view. Due to the influence of the Koralpe, visible in the distance, a cool micro-climate is vivid, and also noticeable in the wines. These have a fine, cool aroma, are multifaceted and complex. The vivid soil conditions - light gravel and sandy soils from river deposits and sandstone, respectively - give the wines spiciness and finesse.
The wines of the "Sand und Schotter" series are the ambassadors of the Eichberg local wine region, and their character makes it possible to understand their provenance. The wines from the Knily site, a steep single vineyard, are mostly lean, with a tightly woven structure and fine minerality, which is signified by the gravelly subsoil. Wines from the Muri site, a pure southern site, stand for the highest grape quality in Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
After spontaneous fermentation, which is the case for all wines in the range, the local wines are aged on the full lees for at least one year, while the "Muri" site wines are allowed to age on the lees for two full years. Large neutral wooden barrels (1,500 litres), used 500-litre wooden barrels and steel tanks are used. The long ageing on the lees and the "low intervention philosophy" (little or no intervention during vinification, no fining, no filtration and only a small dose of sulfur just before bottling) give the wines complexity and radiance with a lot of ageing potential and a promising future.
