Finest white wines: The best from the Wachau DAC Cup 2024

The 2023 vintage in the Wachau produced excellent white wines with fine, pronounced fruit and lively acidity. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are already extremely harmonious and accessible in the lighter range. No fewer than 180 young wines were evaluated.

Hand-picking is obligatory for all Wachau DAC categories. 17 varieties may be used for regional wines, nine varieties and 22 sites are eligible for local wines, but only Grüner Veltliner and Riesling may be bottled as Wachau DAC with a Ried designation. A total of 157 vineyard sites are defined in the Wachau.

Trilogy of the Vinea Wachau

The member wineries of the Vinea Wachau association call their dry wines Steinfeder, Federspiel or Smaragd, depending on the style and alcohol content.

Riesling Wachau DAC 2023

Grüner Veltliner Wachau DAC 2023

Pale yellow-green, silver reflections. Yellow tropical fruit, soft notes of passion fruit, a hint of pineapple, mineral touch, candied orange zest, inviting bouquet. Juicy, good complexity, saline minerality, white fruit nuances, a hint of herbs, apple on the finish, very good persistency.
