Mas Doix Estate Vineyard & Winery

Falstaff Online Österreich 2023

The Doix Llagostera family showed great foresight when, five generations ago, they acquired vineyards in the far north-east of Priorat, which are now among the best in the region and offer extremely creative ageing potential. However, the ravages of phylloxera interrupted the development process here too. It was not until 1998 that the family was finally able to found their winery under the name Mas Doix, which quickly made a meteoric rise to the top class of Priorat winegrowers. These special vineyards make a very special contribution to this. Situated at over 700 meters and not too far from the sea, it is significantly cooler than in many parts of Spain. The differences between day and night temperatures are extremely high, giving the grapes a long ripening period during which the berries can absorb plenty of minerals, nutrients and aromatic substances. And it is precisely this that is immediately apparent in the aroma and taste of the wines. It is not uncommon for the grapes to be harvested after November 1st. Even the entry-level wine "Les Cretes" achieves ratings that are awarded to first wines elsewhere. The rare top wine "1902 Centenary Carignan" is made from Carvon Carignan vines that were planted in 1902 and are now over 100 years old. This wine sets standards for the region, as does the "Costers de Vinyes Velles", a blend of Carinena and Garnacha from equally extremely old vines. The wines from Mas Doix Estate are among the most sought-after in the country, but outside Spain they are still waiting for their big breakthrough. With the grandiose radiance of these wines, it will certainly not be long in coming.
