With Veuve Clicquot’s new “La Grande Dame Rosé 2018,” the Champagne house celebrates 200 years of an innovation that changed rosé Champagne forever — while paying tribute to the visionary spirit of Madame Clicquot.

Veuve Clicquot unveils “La Grande Dame Rosé 2018,” a prestige cuvée inspired by the pioneering vision of Madame Clicquot, the woman affectionately known as “La Grande Dame de la Champagne.” In 1818, she broke with convention by blending carefully selected red wines from Bouzy with white wine, creating what is considered the first known blended rosé Champagne.

The 2018 vintage marks the 200th anniversary of this groundbreaking approach and represents only the 11th release of La Grande Dame Rosé since its introduction in 1988 — underscoring both the rarity and uncompromising standards of the cuvée, which is produced exclusively in exceptional Pinot Noir vintages.

A Legacy Rooted in Pinot Noir

For more than two centuries, Veuve Clicquot has cultivated its signature “L’Art du Pinot Noir,” a philosophy deeply connected to the complexity, elegance and structure of the grape variety. The cuvée is composed primarily of Pinot Noir from the historic vineyards of the Montagne de Reims, complemented by Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, which brings freshness, finesse and delicate minerality.

At the heart of the vintage lies Clos Colin, a symbolic Grand Cru site in Bouzy that was acquired by the house in 1741 and later expanded under Madame Clicquot’s direction. Madame Clicquot regarded the red wines of Bouzy among the finest in Champagne due to their precision, depth and remarkable finesse — qualities that continue to define La Grande Dame Rosé today.

Precision, Elegance and Craftsmanship

Produced with meticulous attention to detail, the wine undergoes a highly selective vinification process designed to preserve purity and terroir expression. Following careful grape selection in both vineyard and cellar, the wine is crafted through gentle destemming, cold maceration and controlled extraction techniques that gradually build structure, colour and aromatic complexity.

The result is a Champagne defined by vibrant notes of cherry, raspberry and red currant, layered with subtle spice and refined tannins. Silky in texture and exceptionally precise, La Grande Dame Rosé 2018 reflects both the innovative spirit of Madame Clicquot and the enduring pursuit of excellence that has shaped the house for more than 250 years.
