The Most Popular Cycling Destinations in Europe 2026
The Cycle Tourism Index 2026 highlights Europe’s most sought-after cycling destinations and maps the continent’s key hotspots for bike travel.
Europe is firmly in the saddle: the latest Cycle Tourism Index 2026 reveals where cycling enthusiasts are heading – and which regions attract visitors year-round.
The study was compiled by trade fair organiser Bikenomist in collaboration with the outdoor platform Komoot, drawing on activity data from 14 European countries. Rather than publishing exact user figures, the analysis relies on two key indicators: a ranking that compares overall cycling activity between regions, and a ratio reflecting the balance between international visitors and local riders. This approach highlights how strongly destinations are driven by tourism.
Europe’s Leading Cycling Destinations
Croatia tops the overall ranking, with Istria taking first place. Spain’s Balearic Islands follow in second, ahead of Croatia’s Primorje-Gorski Kotar. Destinations across Croatia, Spain and Italy dominate the upper ranks, including Zadar, the Canary Islands, Šibenik-Knin, Trentino–South Tyrol, Dubrovnik-Neretva, Lika-Senj and Split-Dalmatia. South Tyrol ranks as Italy’s leading region in seventh place overall, followed by Sardinia and Liguria nationally.

- Spring sees the Balearic Islands and Istria remain dominant, joined by Primorje-Gorski Kotar.
