"It has to be a passion, not a science", Hannes Reeh likes to say when talking about wine. The winemaker combines a long family tradition and the authenticity of a true Burgenländer with time spent in the New World. The result of his work: accessible wines that convince both novices and confirmed connoisseurs. It's good to live under the Andau sun - for people and vines. With around 2,400 hours of sunshine a year, Andau is the sunniest place in Austria - but with less than 500 millimetres of annual rainfall, it is one of the driest places in the country. The Pannonian climate is ideal for good wine, producing exceptionally ripe grapes and wines of elegance, power, and structure. As you would expect from the Pannonian steppe, the soils of Hannes Reeh's vineyards are mostly barren and gravelly. All Hannes Reeh wines have a few things in common: they are streamlined, strong in character, and reflect the terroir in the bottle. And yet each variety has its own unique characteristics. The Andau winemaker's wines are divided into four groups: The "Haus und Hof" wines are single-varietal, enjoyable, and uncomplicated; they are simply the classics of the estate. The "Heideboden" wines combine aromatics and density with a delightful freshness. On the other hand, the 'Unplugged' wines are no-frills, with no fining or adulteration. And the new 'In Bloom' range is intense and complex, just like Nirvana's song 'In Full Bloom'.
