In recent years, the Baltic Sea has been unpredictable and it's hard to be sure of a good catch, but something is always caught. Toomas Leedu, the chef at Kuursaal Restaurant, gets the first pick of that 'something'. That is why the restaurant's main menu is always accompanied by a separate daily fresh fish menu. On the worst days, the menu consists of two lines, but there is always something eye-catching.

FROM THE FISHING BOAT STRAIGHT TO THE TABLE

The Ku-Kuu fish restaurant in Kuressaare Kuursaal is considered the calling card of Saaremaa's food culture. The "catch of the day" is what people go there for. Up to a dozen on the best days and a few selections of local fresh fish on the worst days - as the sea provides. Even when the sea is rough, the fishermen still manage to catch something, and that's where introductions come in. Ku-Kuu's chef Toomas Leedu, a passionate fisherman and angler, he can make the first selection straight from the boat - often meeting the fishermen in the harbour. Or he may have already booked his fish over the phone when the fishermen are just coming in from the sea. It's a shame to say this to fish finders in the shop, but that's the way it is!

At the Ku-Kuu fish restaurant, the fish are simply cooked in the oven or pan-fried and served with seasonal garden produce. It couldn’t be more simple than that. And couldn’t be much tastier as well. There's an art to making simple food extra tasty, and it's an art that is mastered in our restaurant.

The Ku-Kuu fish restaurant has a very wide selection of wines by the glass. Preserves made by the chefs and Ku-Kuu's signature cocktails are well worth trying. Again, you will find locally sourced and locally produced ingredients.
