British Airways unveil new uniforms

Jumpsuits included in modern designs for BA’s 30,000 staff.

One of the world’s most famous airlines has unveiled a new range of uniforms, with more than 1500 BA staff actively providing input after testing out the designs.

Ozwald Boateng’s collection has seen staff requesting a range of modifications to be made: engineers have had tool pockets inserted to their design, with cabin crews requesting that aprons have pockets widened to allow them to carry everything required during meal services.

The collection features a tailored three-piece suit for men with regular and slim-fit style trousers, and dress, skirt and trouser options for women as well as a jumpsuit – a first for airlines; tunic and hijab options have also been created.

More than 90 per cent of the garments are made using sustainable fabric from blends of recycled polyester and, as part of BA’s Better World Commitment to work with sustainable suppliers, it is only working with manufacturers that are members of the ‘Better Cotton’ initiative.

Engineers and ground operators will be the first to wear the uniforms in the next couple of months, with cabin crew, pilots and check-in agents switching from the current uniform in the summer. It will the first change in BA uniform in 20 years.
