"The World's 50 Best Restaurants" honors "Kato" in Los Angeles with "One To Watch Award 2024"

The award recognizes the up-and-coming Michelin-starred restaurant from chef Jon Yao and sommelier and managing director Ryan Bailey, which is making waves in the gastronomy scene and, according to "50 Best", deserves international recognition.

The winner of this year's "Resy One To Watch Award", which was announced ahead of the "The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024" awards ceremony on June 5th, is "Kato". The luxurious restaurant in Los Angeles, California, was opened in 2016 by Taiwanese-American chef Jon Yao and offers a new interpretation of fine dining.

Together with his team, Yao conjures up a twelve-course tasting menu, including dishes such as caramelized sablefish with abalone and basil, grilled lobster with lobster toast and a sauce of roasted mussels and Dungeness crab pudding with fish stomach and crab vinegar. Sweet temptations from the kitchen include Boniato Yam Boba with cream cheese and sable and roasted Taiwanese pineapple Mille Feuille.

"Kato" is considered one of the hottest restaurants in the city, which is characterized by Yao's experience in modern Asian-American gastronomy. His dishes combine the essence of classic Taiwanese cuisine with a distinctly modern touch.

The award now puts the restaurant on the international stage and recognizes Yao's tireless vision to elevate Taiwanese cuisine and bring its myriad benefits to LA diners. "We are delighted to recognize the dedication, passion, skill and originality of the team with this well-deserved award," said William Drew of "The World's best 50 Restaurants" in a press release.
