The Frühwirth family in Klöch sees itself as a business between tradition and modernity, between profound craftsmanship and contemporary technology. Authentic, distinctive wines that show their provenance are the most important concern of the Frühwirth winemaking family. The best way to approach them is in the cosy Buschenschank.
The name "Koasasteffl", the family's vulgon name, is given to premium wines with a powerful and full-bodied stature, whose grapes are subjected to a rigorous selection process and some of which are fermented and matured in barriques. The top red wine is called "Roter Koasasteffl" and is aged in a special sandstone cellar. In addition to the existing parade of varieties such as Klöch, Gewürztraminer and Traminer, there is the long forgotten variety of the latter; the Yellow Traminer, which is being increasingly replanted.
The soil at Hochwarth is volcanic. This deep red soil and the dark basalt ensure that the many days of sunshine also have an effect at night, releasing the stored heat of the day to the vines. Traminer loves this perfect terroir.
The wines are particularly showcased in the Frühwirths' new "wine theatre". The vineyard itself acts as a stage for the wine, where not only can it be tasted, but where, in addition, the volcanic soil is visible and tangible. The old tree press and the vaulted cellar with its glass wine racks in the newly renovated Kellerstöckl are also admired.
Since 2021, the winery has been a member of the "Eruption" winegrowers, who not only produce great "Eruption" wines, but also classify their best sites accordingly and market them in a controlled manner.
