An Iconic Blanc de Blancs Re-imagined: Dom Ruinart 2010 Carved from Chalk

The world's oldest Champagne house, Ruinart, proudly presents its new vision of a single-varietal Champagne that revives the ancient tradition of tirage under natural cork: the Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2010.

20 years of oenological refinement have already given this quintessential Blanc de Blancs, produced exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, a truly multi-layered aromatic depth.  Key to this further development however is a return to “tirage à liège”, bottle ageing under natural cork.

Tirage à liège - a commitment to the craft

In the late 1990s, the then cellar master of Maison Ruinart was looking for a way to add even more depth to the freshness of their legendary Chardonnay. An old method, the »tirage à liège«, was duly revived: instead of crown caps, the bottles are sealed with natural cork for their all-important second fermentation. The porosity of the cork allows the wine to mature longer on the lees and thus develop more complexity over a considerable period.

Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2010 is the first vintage to be produced entirely using this method: maturing for ten years in the Maison's chalk cellars until it reaches its full potential.

Chardonnay Grand Cru grapes matured on chalk soils

This prestigious Champagne is made exclusively from Chardonnay Grand Cru grapes from the finest terroirs. East-facing vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and north-facing slopes in the Montagne de Reims are Maison Ruinart's historical strongholds. It is here that the Chardonnay grapes enjoy the best conditions, ripening in optimal sunlight and thriving on the chalky soils that soak up water in winter to gently release it back to the vines over the summer.

Sustainable elegance enrobed in chalk

An elegant white paper sleeve made from sustainable materials protects the Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2010. Enrobed in this recyclable »overcoat«, the bottle is transformed into a sculpture: the geometric lines and elegant curves recalling the inseparable link between Dom Ruinart and chalk. From the vines growing on their chalky soils to the wines maturing quietly in their UNESCO World Heritage chalk cellars, this champagne is deeply rooted in the limestone of Champagne’s heartland.

Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2010 is available for €253 from selected retailers.
