"Cold dishes" Wine Bars in Burgenland
Over 800 Burgenland wines from 140 winegrowers is quite something! And yet it's only half the truth, because in this pleasure centre in a historic setting, they serve foodies whilst guided tours of the country by the glass are provided and the "mulatság" is just as enjoyable.
There's always something going on here. Winemakers of the month, concerts (including with local hero Hocky) and tasting evenings expand the wine cosmos. But with a selection of 600 wines, it's a big one anyway. You can taste wines by the glass at the bar or in the courtyard.
With a neighbourhood like Weinwerk, it's clear that there's more than just coffee in the café. The regulars' wine table adds variety to the abundance of options by the glass. Gourmet dishes by Theresa Karlo and Richard Triebaumer also provide the Burgenland base!

The relaxed atmosphere has an Italian feel, but the specialties are all from the region. Rosé from the Rosalia and Wulka prosciutto are the order of the day. You should take your time to select the wines, which also include hand-picked bottles from central Burgenland.
On both sides of the main street, Daniel Michalitsch plays Pöttsching - with a wine bar and lounge (in the Meierhof). Wine culture is part of the experience alongside regional delicacies (Wulka prosciutto). The palette ranges from stars and local insider tips to international labels.
The terrace and vault are available for cool drinks and delicious snacks. In addition to the changing wine selection - with a focus on Lake Neusiedl, of course - the drink creations are also tempting. The "Largo Speciale", for example, serves as a rum alternative to the ubiquitous gin and tonic.
The eponymous red bar is the place to be, and the "first aid for connoisseurs" promised at the door is provided in a variety of forms. A selection of regional wines (from A Nobis to Iro to Salzl) is flanked by a selection of Spritz, shots and snacks.
Following the Illmitz vernacular, it is called "SuKu", and people meet at the "Botölln-Tischal". Nils Heidemann and his team are all about mischief. Cocktails such as the "Sexy West" expand the regional wine selection. Also local: National Park sausages.
